The Elmhurst College men’s lacrosse team took a rough 8-4 loss Tuesday, March 12th against the Depauw University Tigers.
The Bluejays gave up three goals in the first quarter of the game and could not match the intensity of Depauw’s offense. The Tigers continued to put the pressure on in the second quarter, making the score 4-0 at 14:24.
“When Depauw went up 4-0, I just kept telling our younger guys to keep plucking away,” explained senior Dan O’Connell. “We’ve been in similar situations before, and come out on top, but unfortunately we weren’t able to recover this time.”
With nine minutes left in the second quarter, freshman Marcus Yandall scored the first goal of the game for EC, making the score 4-1. Depauw countered back scoring another goal with only 27 seconds left in the half.
Depauw was up 5-1 going into the second half. EC then rallied in the third quarter with a goal by senior Dan O’Connell and another goal by junior Mac Harden.
The Bluejays came in within two and held Tigers off until the final seconds of the third quarter. With 1:48 left in the quarter, Depauw scored, and pushed their lead to 6-3.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Tigers scored again, putting them up by four. EC fought back with a goal by Harden with 11:45 left in the game.
With one minute left in the fourth quarter, Depauw scored the final goal of the game to seal a 8-4 win over the Bluejays.
The men’s lacrosse team heads to California to face Whittier College on March 23.
