An intruder, who stayed overnight in the Schick Hall restrooms in an attempt to get into a female student’s room, was later arrested out of state, according to police.
The suspect has been identified as Shawn Streck, a nationally ranked heavyweight wrestler at Purdue University
The Elmhurst Police Department’s bulletin detailed how the victim who was an EC student reported she and Streck had a previous dating relationship.
On the weekend of October 13 and 14, Streck attempted to gain entry to the victim's dorm room which was in Schick Hall but was unsuccessful. He subsequently left, as detailed in the police report.
However, Streck soon came back.
When he returned, “He gained access, and remained in the bathrooms overnight,” detailed the daily bulletin.
Streck then fled the campus and state after security was notified.
Though Streck left the area, he had since made threatening statements toward the victim.
The threats that were reported included Streck sending an image of himself posed with the gun. He made statements that he intended to hurt the female student “if she did not continue to have a sexual relationship with him”, according to The Extruder.
The man was served an intimidation using deadly weapons charge according to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office. A criminal trespass to Elmhurst College was also served according to The Office of Campus Security, which indicates that he may not be on campus or on any college-owned or leased property.
A bail bond has been set; however, according to an email update from campus security on October 18, “Last night (Oct. 17), we were alerted that the individual remains in police custody, and is expected to remain there for the foreseeable future.”
According to Tim Doty, Director of Public Information and Issues Management at Purdue, “Purdue Police, assisted by the Elmhurst College Security department and the Elmhurst City Police department, investigated the complaint and arrested Streck on a charge of intimidation, a Level 5 felony.
Streck is currently in the Tippecanoe County jail and the criminal investigation is ongoing.
Streck has also been suspended from Purdue University according to Doty.
The Office of Campus Security declined to comment on the matter but mentioned that the incident is an active investigation for both police and the campus.
