North Korea claimed that it has successfully completed a nuclear weapon test last Friday.
The test involved a nuclear warhead capable of a 10 kiloton blast that was attached to a ballistic missile. This marks the largest nuclear weapon detonation ever tested in North Korea almost doubling the last, an explosion of 6 kilotons.
According to CNN, later that same day, U.S. President Barack Obama released a statement calling the test, “a grave threat to regional security and to international peace and stability”.
The international community is struggling to settle on the appropriate actions for such a test. Increased sanctions were leveled at North Korea in March, but this latest test puts further pressure on the international community to take action for the sake of security.
